Robot Design & Building Workshop

About the Robot Design & Building Workshop

The Robot Design & Building Workshop is a hands-on, project-based program where participants learn how robots are conceptualized, engineered, wired, programmed, and tested for real-world applications. This workshop is perfect for robotics enthusiasts, engineering students, hobbyists, tech clubs, and beginners interested in automation and embedded systems. By the end of the workshop, every participant will design, assemble, program, and test a fully functional robot capable of performing tasks such as obstacle avoidance, line following, and basic autonomous actions.

🧩 Workshop Modules – Robot Design & Building Workshop

📘 Robotics Theory & Fundamentals

Core concepts: kinematics, basics of control systems, DC motors and servos, power systems, actuator selection, sensor fundamentals (IR, ultrasonic, encoders), and embedded system architecture. Theory is made practical with examples showing how each principle maps to real robot behaviour.

🔧 Mechanical Assembly & Chassis Build

Design and assemble robot chassis: frame building, drivetrain options (wheels/tracks), mounting motors, gearbox integration, center-of-gravity considerations, and safe mechanical fastening techniques. Emphasis on robust, serviceable builds.

🔌 Electronics, Wiring & Power Management

Hands-on wiring: motor drivers, power distribution, battery selection and BMS basics, signal routing, noise mitigation, and soldering best practices. Participants wire their robots and verify safe power flows.

💻 Programming, Control & Sensors

Learn microcontroller programming (Arduino / ESP / STM32 options), sensor integration, PID control, obstacle detection, line-following algorithms, and basic SLAM/odometry introductions. Code and tune live.

🧪 Testing, Calibration & Field Trials

Calibrate sensors, test motor directions, tune control loops, set up failsafes, and run functional trials. Iterate on hardware and software until reliable obstacle avoidance, line-following, and autonomy behaviours are achieved.

⏳ Workshop Duration

The workshop can be run in 3 to 5 days depending on the chosen track:

Day-1: Theory & basic programming
Day-2: Assembly & electronics
Day-3: Programming + Calibration + Testing
Day-4: Extended practice + Field Trials
